The good news is that at least seasonal characters will transfer to the Eternal realm once the season is over, so there’s that. Or they need to wait to try out alt classes until the season hits, and it may even be better to delete alts you currently have in lieu of the season arriving. But now they’re in a bizarre situation where they either have to put down their main class and restart a different main class character. Most people may have one, moderately strong character by then, or have sampled a few others.

But by the time this first season comes out, it will be a month and a half since release. I totally get why some players, especially the most hardcore ones, would want to re-level instead of using their maxed out level 100s every season. I am absolutely not suggesting that the entire concept of seasonal characters should be erased. Diablo 4 does not want to be inaccessible. For the ladder race, make it so that if you “activate” the battle pass with an Eternal character you are disqualified, so you’re not getting the boons for seasonal characters early or whatever.Īdditionally, the claim that “all ARPGs do this” is mainly referencing…Path of Exile, the other main ARPG in the space, which yes, is a good game, but is pretty damn inaccessible and easy to bounce off of. Yes, it has boosts for seasonal characters, but there are loads of cosmetics in there as well. It strikes me as nonsensical that XP you earn on Eternal characters cannot even progress a paid battle pass. That’s not even true, as with these bolstered seasons there is now actual story content each time, and the battle pass is an entirely new concept for the game. I would push back against the idea that because this is “always how things have been” that it’s a reason to continue exactly as things were.
